Diploma Years (Grades 11 - 12)

The Imagine International Academy of North Texas plans to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) for students in grades 11-12.  The IB DP is an academically challenging and balanced program with final examinations that prepares students for success at university and life beyond. The IB DP is internationally recognized and respected by the world's leading universities.  In Texas, Senate Bill 111 allows students who complete an IB Diploma to receive a minimum of 24 hours of college credit at any public university.

Students study six courses at Standard Level or Higher Level.  One subject must be chosen from each of groups 1-5 (Language A, Language B, Social Studies, Experimental Sciences, Mathematics) and a sixth subject may be from group 6 (Arts) or a second subject from groups 1-5.

Three additional requirements broaden the educational experience and challenge students to apply their knowledge and understanding.  The Extended Essay is a requirement for students to engage in independent research through an in-depth study of a question relating to one of the subjects they are studying.  Theory of Knowledge is a course designed to encourage each student to reflect on the nature of knowledge by critically examining different ways of knowing (perception, emotion, language and reason) and different kinds of knowledge (scientific, artistic, mathematical and historical).  Creativity, Action, Service requires that students actively learn from the experience of doing real tasks beyond the classroom, with a minimum of 150 hours of community service. Students can combine all three components or do activities related to each one of them separately.
